Louisiana elections

In person, by mail, or at an OMV office: Mon Oct 5, 2026 (the 30-day deadline falls on Sun Oct 4; R.S. 18:135 moves a holiday deadline to the next day that is not a Saturday, Sunday or holiday); a mailed application or its envelope must be postmarked by the deadline. GeauxVote online registration (Louisiana driver's license or special ID required): Tue Oct 13, 2026. No same-day registration.

Request deadline is a received deadline by 4:30 p.m.. Return: received-by deadline 2026-11-02; a postmark does not extend it.

Voted absentee ballots (other than military/overseas and hospitalized voters) must be received by the parish Registrar of Voters by 4:30 p.m. on Mon Nov 2, 2026 - the day before Election Day. Return by mail/commercial carrier, fax (on request), or hand delivery by the voter or an immediate family member (signed statement required; no one but immediate family may hand-deliver more than one ballot). Military/overseas and hospitalized voters: by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

U.S. House only. Per Act 7 of the 2026 Regular Session, Nov. 3 is an open (all-candidate) primary for U.S. Representative; if no candidate wins a majority, the top two meet in the Dec. 12 "Open U.S. Representative General". The U.S. Senate race (closed party primaries May 16 / June 27) is decided at the Nov. 3 general by plurality (LA SOS: "The candidate with the greatest number of votes in the general will be declared the winner, with no majority required."), and the SOS schedule lists no Senate contest on Dec. 12, although the FEC election-dates API codes Dec. 12 as GR for both House and Senate.
