Pre-registration closes at 5:00 p.m. Mon Oct 19, 2026 (15 days before). Mailed forms postmarked on or before Oct 19 (the 'worry-free postmark date') are on time even if received later; forms received by 5 p.m. Oct 19 are on time whatever the postmark. Online registration is through the Iowa Department of Transportation website. After the deadline, voters can register and vote the same day with proof of identity and residence at the county auditor's office or a satellite station during in-person absentee voting (through Nov 2), or at their polling place on Election Day (7 a.m. - 8 p.m.).

Absentee ballots must be received in the county auditor's office before the polls close at 8:00 p.m. (CT) on Election Day, Nov 3, 2026 - by mail, hand delivery to the auditor's office, or the county's single drop box (if any) until 8:00 p.m. Voted absentee ballots cannot be delivered to polling places. A designee must return the ballot within 72 hours of retrieving it. (Only UOCAVA/Safe at Home ballots mailed by Nov 2 and received by noon Nov 9 are counted late.)
