Enhancing Detection of Human Trafficking Act
- Train selected Labor employees: The Secretary of Labor would have to start a training and continuing-education program within 180 days after enactment. The Secretary would choose employees based on their official duties, and the training would be tailored to their work location or professional environment and reflect current trends and best practices
- Teach detection and referral practices: Training would cover identifying suspected victims and suspected traffickers, and how to refer potential cases to the Department of Justice and other appropriate authorities. It would include guidance on protecting victims’ rights, collaboration with victim advocacy organizations and government officials, and information consistent with privacy laws; employees would evaluate the training afterward
- Consider child-labor conditions: When selecting Wage and Hour Division employees for training, the Secretary would have to consider the needs of employees working in a state with a significant increase in oppressive child labor
