Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act
- Add coverage for qualifying multi-cancer tests: Starting January 1, 2028, Medicare would cover tests that screen for several cancer types across multiple organs if they meet the bill’s test requirements and the Secretary of Health and Human Services determines they are reasonable and necessary and appropriate for Medicare beneficiaries
- Limit who can receive the tests: Medicare would not pay for a test if the beneficiary has reached the age cutoff as of January 1 of that year, or received another multi-cancer test during the previous 11 months. The cutoff would be age 68 in 2028 and rise by one year each succeeding year
- Set payment amounts for the tests: Before January 1, 2031, payment would match the amount then in effect for a covered multi-target stool DNA screening test. From that date, payment would be the lesser of that amount or the amount set under the clinical laboratory fee schedule
