Uyghur Policy Act of 2026
- Coordinates U.S. policy and reporting: The Secretary of State should coordinate with other agencies and foreign governments on human rights, support for Uyghurs, and efforts to address repression beyond China’s borders. The Secretary must report to Congress within 180 days after enactment and annually for the next three years; these requirements end five years after enactment
- Builds pressure for access to Xinjiang: The State Department should work with foreign partners on a strategy to press China to close detention facilities and camps, allow independent access to facilities, and protect human rights and Uyghur cultural and religious identity
- Directs U.S. action at the United Nations: The President must direct the U.S. representative to oppose efforts to block discussion of human-rights violations in Xinjiang or participation by Uyghur human-rights advocates, and to support a special rapporteur for the region
