Markup terms
The committee voted to send the bill to the full House or Senate. It still needs a floor vote.
A replacement version of the bill offered by the chair, usually with changes negotiated beforehand.
An amendment that replaces the whole text of the bill. Other amendments are then offered to it.
Members say “aye” or “no” together. No names are recorded.
Each member’s vote is recorded by name. Any member can ask for one.
The amendment failed.
The committee recommends that the full chamber pass the bill or confirm the nominee.
