Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act
- Study attacks and response gaps: The Attorney General would report on targeted attacks and ambushes against officers, existing responses and training, protective-gear distribution, and gaps in crime data. The report would also recommend ways to improve responses and training
- Assess data on aggressive incidents: The Attorney General would study whether federal crime-reporting systems could add a category for aggressive or trauma-inducing incidents against officers that are not currently reported. The report would examine what information to include, how to involve state and local agencies, and how the data could be used
- Review officer mental-health resources: The Attorney General would report on officers’ mental-health and stress responses to aggressive or traumatic incidents, available resources and programs, their use, and the availability or need for mental-health screening. The report would also identify possible legislative tools to improve officer wellness
