AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act of 2025
- Require AM radio in new vehicles: DOT would have to require standard equipment that receives and plays AM broadcasts in covered passenger vehicles made after the rule takes effect. The radio access must be easy for drivers to use; equipment that receives digital audio AM broadcasts can meet the requirement
- Require notice and prohibit extra fees: Until the rule takes effect, manufacturers of covered new vehicles without AM radio must clearly tell buyers. They may not charge a separate fee for access to AM broadcasts during that period
- Study emergency alert options: The Comptroller General would assess how well AM radio and other technologies distribute emergency alerts, including their resilience and accessibility. The study would also examine whether other technologies can reach at least 90 percent of the U.S. population during a crisis, including at night
