Veterans Accessibility Advisory Committee Act of 2025
- Require citizenship documents to register: For federal elections, states could not accept or process a voter registration application unless the applicant provided documentary proof of U.S. citizenship. The bill lists acceptable documents and requires states to offer an alternative process for applicants who cannot provide one, as well as processes for name or document discrepancies
- Check voter rolls for noncitizens: States would have to take ongoing steps to ensure that only U.S. citizens are registered for federal elections, including submitting voter lists to the Department of Homeland Security for comparison through its SAVE system. Before removing someone identified as a noncitizen, the state would have to give that person notice and a chance to provide proof of citizenship
- Require photo identification to vote: Voters in person would have to show a valid physical photo ID to receive a federal-election ballot. A voter without the ID could cast a provisional ballot, but would have to show the ID or provide a state-developed affidavit about a religious objection to being photographed within three days for the ballot to be determined eligible under state law
