Alex Gate Safety Act of 2025
- Set safety standards for covered gates: The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) would have to set a safety standard for automatic and manual vehicle gates, plus other gates more than 48 inches wide or at least 84 inches tall. The standard would incorporate applicable safety requirements from named ASTM standards, and gates with operators would also have to meet applicable ANSI/CAN/UL 325 requirements
- Educate the public about gate hazards: The CPSC would run a national campaign about gate dangers, including gates that detach or fall, and ways to prevent death or injury. Materials would be directed to businesses, consumers and gate owners or operators, as well as building officials and local educational agencies
- Update adopted standards as they change: When an organization revises a voluntary standard adopted under the bill, it would notify the CPSC. The revision would generally take effect as a CPSC standard 180 days after notice, unless the CPSC objects within 90 days because it finds the revision would not improve safety; the CPSC could also later change the standard through rulemaking if it finds that would further reduce injury risk
