What the bill would do, and why it matters
Air traffic noise and pollution can raise questions about health effects for people near flight paths. The bill would have the FAA arrange for National Academies experts to review the science and send a consensus report to federal officials and congressional committees.
- INTRODUCED ONLY This bill has been introduced and possibly referred to a committee, but it has not passed any vote. Most introduced bills never become law — they die in committee without a hearing.
- DATA NOTE No Congressional Research Service summary was available.
- Commission a health-effects review
The FAA would arrange with the National Academies’ Health and Medicine Division for experts in health and environmental science to examine the health impacts of air traffic noise and pollution and issue a consensus report on current scientific knowledge. The Division would send the report to the FAA, the HHS and EPA administrators, and the specified House and Senate committees.
The bill focuses on what is known about the health impacts of noise and pollution from air traffic. Its report would give aviation, health and environmental officials, as well as congressional committees, a shared review of current scientific knowledge.
