Currently, if a police officer is fired for a crime in one state, they might try to move to another state where that specific crime doesn't show up on a basic local check. Because state licensing boards haven't always had direct access to full national FBI records, these 'wandering officers' can sometimes slip through the cracks and get certified to work again.

If this bill becomes law, it closes that information gap. It allows regulators to see a complete picture of an officer's history, which is a major step in police reform and accountability. Without this law, state boards continue to rely on a patchwork of information that may leave out critical details about an officer's past behavior.
