Most Americans don't realize that a huge portion of our medicine—or the chemicals used to make it—comes from factories in countries like China and India. If one of those factories shuts down or has a safety problem, it can lead to massive drug shortages in U.S. pharmacies. Currently, the FDA doesn't always have a clear, real-time map of which drugs rely on which specific factories.

By forcing this transparency, the government can better protect the drug supply. If this becomes law, the FDA can identify 'single points of failure' where many different brands all rely on one factory. For the average person, it means more reliable access to medicine and more information about the quality and origin of the pills they put in their bodies.
