Currently, the application process for food assistance can be so complicated that many eligible seniors simply give up. If this bill becomes law, it would reduce that administrative burden and effectively raise the floor for food security by increasing the minimum benefit amount.

Without this change, many seniors will continue to receive the current minimum benefit (around $23 in many cases), which is often cited as too low to justify the effort of the application process. By streamlining the system and boosting the dollar amount, the bill attempts to lower the rate of malnutrition and food insecurity among the most vulnerable age groups.
