In recent years, there have been growing concerns about the security of our elections and whether foreign governments or secret corporate interests could influence the technology we use to vote. Currently, there is no single place for the public to see which companies are being paid to handle our votes and who owns those companies.

If this becomes law, it adds a layer of transparency intended to build trust in the voting process. By making ownership public, it becomes easier to spot potential conflicts of interest or foreign interference. If it doesn't pass, the relationships between local governments and election tech vendors will remain largely private or scattered across thousands of different local jurisdictions.
