What the bill would do, and why it matters
Federal law can provide a framework for regional partnerships. The bill would designate the Great Lakes Commission as the Regional Great Lakes Partnership and update related references in the law.
- INTRODUCED ONLY This bill has been introduced and possibly referred to a committee, but it has not passed any vote. Most introduced bills never become law — they die in committee without a hearing.
- DATA NOTE No Congressional Research Service summary was available.
- Designates the Great Lakes Commission
Would name the Great Lakes Commission as the Regional Great Lakes Partnership in federal law. The Commission comprises Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
The bill would give the Great Lakes Commission a specifically named role in the federal law governing regional partnerships. That would replace the law’s general reference to a partnership established under the section with a reference to the designated Great Lakes Commission.
