Marsha Blackburn won Tennessee’s Republican nomination for governor on Aug. 6, setting up a November race against Democratic nominee Jerri Green. Blackburn used her victory speech to pledge conservative policies and support for President Donald Trump’s agenda.
NBC News and the Associated Press projected Blackburn’s primary victory over John Rose and Monty Fritts. She said she would work with the Trump administration on deportations and pledged to create a “Tennessee DOGE” to cut government spending. Blackburn also said she would seek to keep Tennessee a conservative state and align with Trump’s agenda.
Green, a Memphis council member, won the Democratic nomination and campaigned on affordability and public schools, among other issues. Tim Burchett celebrated Blackburn’s nomination while warning Republicans that the general election was still ahead; Rose congratulated Blackburn and urged supporters to back her in November.
