U.S. Rep. Russell Fry and attorney Duke Buckner announced campaigns for South Carolina’s special U.S. Senate election. The special Republican primary is scheduled for Aug. 11, with a possible runoff on Aug. 25.
Fry and Buckner said affordability was a reason they were running. Fry cited high gas and grocery prices and called for a conservative fighter in the Senate; Buckner said he wants to expand opportunities in skilled trades and lower living costs. Rep. Ralph Norman and businessman Mark Lynch have also announced campaigns.
President Donald Trump said he asked Darline Graham, sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, to join the race and offered his endorsement if she did. Darline Graham, appointed to fill the vacant seat until January 2027, had not formally announced a campaign. Candidate filing runs July 21–28, and the special primary is set for Aug. 11, with a possible Aug. 25 runoff.
