CBS News projects Shannon Taylor won the Democratic primary in Virginia’s 1st District, advancing to a race against incumbent Republican Rep. Rob Wittman. Taylor received support from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and several prominent Virginia Democrats.
CBS News projected that Shannon Taylor won the Democratic primary in Virginia’s 1st District, defeating six other candidates. She will seek to unseat incumbent Republican Rep. Rob Wittman, who has represented the district since 2007 and has President Trump’s endorsement.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee supported Taylor through its Red to Blue program, and Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine and Gov. Abigail Spanberger endorsed her. The district is rated “lean Republican” by the Cook Political Report and backed Trump by five points in 2024. A court decision restored the district’s original map after voters approved a new map earlier in the year.
