Rep. Thomas Massie said Republicans could be “very vulnerable” in the midterms and criticized President Donald Trump’s priorities, days after losing his primary to Trump-backed Ed Gallrein. Massie also said he had not ruled out a 2028 presidential run.
In a Sunday interview, Massie warned that Republicans could be vulnerable in the midterms, saying some voters on the right have “Trump Disappointment Syndrome.” He said breaking with Trump had been worth it for him, but might not be worth it for the party. Massie lost his primary the previous week to former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein, whom Trump backed.
Massie criticized the proposed taxpayer funding for security related to the White House ballroom construction and called the project an “egregious waste of money.” He also criticized the administration’s overseas spending and said high costs were hurting Americans. Asked about a possible 2028 presidential bid, Massie said he would not rule anything out but had not decided what to do next.
