The House Ethics Committee opened a review of Rep. Nancy Mace over allegations that she received more than $9,000 in lodging reimbursements beyond her expenses. Mace’s office disputes the allegations, and the committee said its review does not mean a violation occurred.
The House Ethics Committee said on March 2 that it would review Mace’s expenses after the Office of Congressional Conduct requested it. The OCC report alleged that Mace received $9,485.46 more than her lodging expenses across 12 monthly reports in 2023 and 2024, based on documents including utility bills and escrow amounts. The report said Mace held a 28% ownership stake in the property and declined an interview.
Mace’s office said she provided evidence that the OCC ignored and disputed the report’s foundation. Her lawyer also called the report flawed and said it relied on false narratives from Mace’s former fiancé. The OCC said the alleged conduct would violate House rules, standards of conduct and federal law if its findings were true; the Ethics Committee noted that its review does not indicate a violation occurred.
