Maryland Democrats selected state Del. Adrian Boafo as their nominee to succeed retiring Rep. Steny Hoyer, setting up a November race against Republican Chris Chaffee. Rep. April McClain Delaney also won her primary against former Rep. David Trone.
Boafo won the Democratic primary for Maryland’s 5th District after receiving endorsements from Hoyer and Gov. Wes Moore, among others. He thanked Hoyer in his victory speech and said voters had chosen to “pass the torch to a new generation of leaders.” Boafo will face Republican Chris Chaffee in November.
Elsewhere in Maryland, Gov. Wes Moore won the Democratic gubernatorial primary. Rep. April McClain Delaney defeated former Rep. David Trone in the 6th District primary; Trone had criticized her over immigration and her vote for the Laken Riley Act.
