James Talarico is launching his first paid negative TV ad of the Texas Senate race, criticizing Ken Paxton over corruption allegations. Paxton’s adviser responded by attacking Talarico’s record.
Talarico’s 30-second ad, titled “Most Corrupt,” will air during Texas Christian University’s opening football game against the University of North Carolina as part of an existing statewide ad buy, his campaign said. Talarico says Paxton is “the most corrupt politician in Texas” and cites Paxton’s real estate portfolio and impeachment. The Texas Senate acquitted Paxton on all charges after the Texas House impeached him over allegations of abuse of office.
Talarico had spent nearly $29 million on ads before the week of the report, with nearly all of them positive. Paxton had spent little on general-election advertising, while allied Republican groups aired ads criticizing Talarico’s vote on a bill concerning Texas land sales to China-connected individuals and entities. Paxton adviser Nick Maddux said Talarico was trying to distract voters from his record.
