Sen. Pete Ricketts and independent Senate candidate Dan Osborn clashed over party affiliation, health care, tax policy and campaign financing in a Nebraska debate. Osborn defended his independence while acknowledging that outside groups supporting his campaign had received money from secret donors.
Ricketts repeatedly called Osborn “Democrat Dan” and linked him to democratic socialists. He criticized Osborn’s support for “Medicare for All” and said Osborn would not have supported President Trump’s tax cuts and other measures. Osborn said he would have opposed the bill as written, but argued that an independent Senate position could have given him leverage to deliver for Nebraska.
The candidates also disputed campaign financing. Ricketts accused Osborn of being funded by liberal interests outside Nebraska, while Osborn said he had benefited from secret donors who gave to outside groups supporting his campaign. The debate covered tariffs and the cost of living, ICE and the war in Iran, campaign financing, and artificial intelligence.
