Maine Senate nominee Troy Jackson acknowledged a decades-old fight after a police report described him breaking into a home and assaulting a man. Jackson accepted responsibility for the fight but denied ever being violent toward his partner, who also disputed the report’s account of her statements.
Jackson told Fox News Digital that he got into a fight nearly 40 years ago when he was 19 and said he took responsibility then and does so now. The Bangor Daily News reported that a 1988 police report and witness statement described Jackson kicking in a door and punching a man; the report also attributed to Jackson’s partner a claim that he pushed her after the confrontation. These are accounts of historical events, and the underlying court file has since been destroyed.
Jackson’s partner, Lana Pelletier, said she did not remember making the statements attributed to her and that they were inaccurate. The report comes as Jackson campaigns against Sen. Susan Collins, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee called on Democrats to condemn him. Fox News Digital said it sought the original records and received a response that the town was consulting its attorneys about releasing documents.
