After 24 years in the Senate, John Cornyn conceded the Republican primary runoff to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Cornyn said 8% of registered voters cast ballots and that roughly 60% sided with Paxton. He thanked his family, staff and Texans, and said he planned to continue working during his final seven months in the Senate.
Texas officials, including Governor Greg Abbott, congratulated Paxton. President Donald Trump had endorsed Paxton the week before. Paxton is set to face Democratic nominee James Talarico for the Senate seat in November.
