South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster appointed Darline Graham Nordone to finish her brother Lindsey Graham’s Senate term after his death. The appointment will be followed by a special Republican primary in August.
McMaster said he chose Nordone after speaking with her following Graham’s death. Nordone accepted, saying she would honor her brother and finish some of his work. President Donald Trump endorsed the choice in a social media post, and Sen. Tim Scott also supported it.
A special Republican primary is scheduled for Aug. 11, with a runoff on Aug. 25 if no candidate wins a majority. Nordone did not say whether she would run in the primary. Mark Lynch said he intends to run, and Dr. Annie Andrews is the Democratic nominee.
