Sen. Edward Markey and Rep. Seth Moulton debated affordability, health care, age and party leadership in their final Massachusetts Democratic Senate primary debate. Their contrasting arguments came as voting was underway ahead of the Sept. 1 primary.
Markey defended his progressive record while Moulton argued for generational change. Both connected affordability to the war in Iran; they differed over Medicare for All, age limits for Congress and whether they agree on policy. Markey said Moulton does not support Medicare for All, while Moulton argued that their main difference is their approach.
Markey declined to say whether he would support Charles Schumer as Democratic leader if Democrats regain control of the Senate. A poll described in the article showed Markey leading, while finding Moulton was seen as better representing young people. Republican Senate candidate John Deaton criticized both candidates’ debate performances. The article said mail-in voting was underway and early voting would start that weekend, ahead of the Sept. 1 primary.
