Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accused Speaker Mike Johnson of shielding President Donald Trump from congressional scrutiny after Johnson said Republican control protects Trump and his allies from investigations. Other Democrats and an activist also criticized Johnson’s remarks.
At a Faith and Freedom Coalition summit, Mike Johnson warned that if Republicans lose the midterms, Democrats could turn congressional committees into investigative bodies targeting Trump’s family, administration, donors and allies. Johnson added, “I run the protection program. We’ll take care of you, OK?”
