Michigan police union POAM endorsed Republican gubernatorial candidate John James, citing his support for law enforcement. James responded with promises to back officers if elected governor.
The Police Officers Association of Michigan, which represents more than 12,000 law enforcement officers, endorsed James for governor. POAM president James Tignanelli said the union backed James because of his record on policing and public safety, and criticized policies it described as “defund the police.”
James said his administration would provide officers with training, equipment, legal protections and respect.
