Iowa Republicans promoted a ballot amendment that would require a two-thirds vote to raise income taxes, while criticizing U.S. Senate candidate Josh Turek over a past tax vote. The almanac also reports endorsements in the Iowa governor’s race and state legislative races.
The Republican Party of Iowa promoted Constitutional Amendment 1 during its “Turek’s Too Liberal” tour. The measure would raise the threshold for increasing individual or corporate income taxes from a simple majority to a two-thirds supermajority. State Rep. Dan Gehlbach urged voters to support it and criticized Turek over a past Iowa House tax vote. Turek’s campaign responded that he had worked with Republicans to cut taxes and criticized U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson.
The almanac also says the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America Candidate Fund endorsed Republican gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn, while Save the Children Action Network endorsed Democrat Rob Sand and seven legislative candidates. The organizations cited their positions or records on abortion, childcare, early education and food assistance.
