Three days after an ICE agent fatally shot a man in Houston, Texas Republicans had largely not addressed the shooting or calls for an independent investigation. Rep. Sylvia Garcia and other Houston Democrats renewed their demands for an outside probe and the release of evidence.
ICE said the agent fired in self-defense after the man used his vehicle in an attempt to run over an officer. Three men who were in the van disputed that account in written statements relayed by their lawyer. Garcia said ICE’s acting director had told her the man was not the target of the operation, and she called for an investigation involving local authorities and for ICE and the Department of Homeland Security to release evidence.
