After Rep. Ilhan Omar was sprayed during a Minneapolis town hall, President Donald Trump suggested she staged the attack, without providing evidence. A man was arrested in connection with the incident.
Omar was hosting the town hall and calling for the abolition of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem when a man rushed at her and sprayed an unknown liquid. Trump told ABC News he thought Omar was a “fraud” and said she “probably had herself sprayed”; he also said he had not seen video of the attack.
Omar said in a post on X that she was OK and that the incident would not intimidate her from doing her work. Anthony Kazmierczak, 55, was arrested in connection with the incident and booked on suspicion of third-degree assault.
