Rep. August Pfluger and five colleagues urged Treasury to ensure that any sale of Lukoil’s international assets permanently prevents Russian control. In a Fox Business interview, Pfluger also discussed oil prices and risks to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Pfluger, Reps. Craig Goldman, Julie Fedorchak, Randy Weber, Pat Fallon and Dan Crenshaw sent Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent a letter applauding efforts to block Russian energy assets and warning that the assets should not return to Russian control through a resale. Pfluger said the Lukoil divestment should cut off revenues to Russia rather than allow them to be routed back through another company.
In an interview with Maria Bartiromo, Pfluger said he hoped higher oil prices would be temporary and described the movement of oil and gas supplies out of the Arabian Gulf as a current concern. He also said the Iranian regime continues to threaten the Strait of Hormuz.
