Former state Senate President Troy Jackson gained support in county delegate meetings as Shenna Bellows ended her campaign on Sunday, saying she would focus on her work as Maine’s secretary of state. Jackson’s slate captured nearly all the delegate slots available in Saturday’s county meetings, though those delegates are not bound to support him at the convention.
Democratic delegates are due to select a nominee to challenge Sen. Susan Collins after Graham Platner ended his campaign the previous week following an allegation of sexual assault, which he denied. Physician Nirav Shah was described as another top contender, while Jordan Wood said he planned to stay in the race.
