Rep. Laura Gillen secured $250,000 in federal funding toward a new hook-and-ladder truck for the Floral Park Fire Department, which officials say needs a replacement vehicle to meet safety and service demands.
The $250,000 was secured through the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations process and will cover about 10% of a truck expected to cost more than $2.7 million. Gillen’s office said the purchase will replace an aging truck and help address increased demand as multistory buildings are constructed in the village.
Fire Chief Gil Luger said the department’s previous truck was lost in a 2025 accident and that a used replacement has needed frequent servicing and costly repairs. Luger and Mayor Kevin Fitzgerald described the vehicle as important to Floral Park and the surrounding mutual-aid area. Gillen’s office said the funding is part of more than $13 million in Community Project Funding she secured for Nassau County.
