An ICE agent fatally shot a man in Biddeford, Maine, and Sen. Angus King said the man was not the target of the arrest warrant. Officials gave differing accounts of the shooting, which is under investigation.
An ICE agent fatally shot a motorist in Biddeford. The Department of Homeland Security said agents were trying to stop a vehicle that attempted to flee; King said Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin told him the officer opened fire after the driver tried to use the vehicle as a weapon. King also said the warrant was for someone else, not the man who was shot.
The Maine attorney general’s office is investigating and said initial statements suggested the motorist was driving toward the agent; the agent has been placed on leave. A witness described seeing the wounded driver and hearing him say, “I tried to stop,” while security video showed a vehicle approaching an intersection before officers removed the driver. The video did not show when shots were fired.
