Louisiana Democratic Senate candidates Jamie Davis and Gary Crockett are competing in a June 27 runoff to determine who faces the Republican nominee in November. In interviews, both opposed carbon capture, while they offered different views on DEI and outlined priorities for the Senate.
Jamie Davis received 47% of the vote in the May 16 Democratic primary, while Gary Crockett received 26%, sending both to the June 27 runoff. Both candidates told FOX 8 they oppose carbon capture and sequestration, citing concerns about property rights and the technology. Crockett said he sees benefits in diversity and supports advancement based on merit; Davis said President Trump ended DEI initiatives and questioned why the issue remains under discussion.
Crockett named insurance costs, wages and healthcare among his priorities. Davis said he would pursue a national ban on gerrymandering, a farm bill and a rollback of the “one big beautiful bill” to restore ACA subsidies. The runoff winner will face the Republican candidate who wins that party’s runoff in the November general election.
