James Talarico’s campaign says he raised $30 million in the second quarter, more than three times Ken Paxton’s reported $9 million. The figures are not yet in required campaign filings, and recent public polling has found the Texas Senate race essentially tied.
Talarico’s campaign said he raised $30 million from April through June, a record second-quarter total for a Senate candidate in an election year, and more than $70 million since launching his bid. His campaign said 97% of donations were $100 or less and that he had sworn off corporate PAC donations. Talarico said his campaign aimed to unite Texans and lower costs for working families.
Paxton’s campaign reported raising more than $9 million in the quarter, which it called a personal best. Both campaigns still had to file their reports with the Federal Election Commission by July 15. The article says recent public polling found the race essentially tied and notes that a Supreme Court ruling could allow Paxton to draw on national Republican resources.
