A Texas Democratic Party convention is approaching amid tensions following James Talarico’s Senate primary victory over Jasmine Crockett. Crockett says she will focus on down-ballot races, while Colin Allred was not invited to the convention; Talarico disputes Allred’s account of a past remark.
A Texas Democratic Party convention is approaching amid tensions after James Talarico defeated Jasmine Crockett by six points in the Senate primary. Crockett told The Dallas Morning News that she does not plan to attend and is focusing on down-ballot candidates. The article says Colin Allred was not invited to the convention; the party chairman said not every member of Congress or congressional candidate was invited to speak.
The article revisits Allred’s accusation that Talarico described him as a “mediocre Black man.” Talarico said the account mischaracterized a private conversation and that he had called Allred’s campaigning mediocre, not his life or service. Crockett later said her priority was down-ballot primaries and that no one could dictate what her support should look like. The author argues the dispute could dampen enthusiasm among Black voters and criticizes the party’s handling of the convention.
