Rep. Ilhan Omar amended her financial disclosures after a filing overstated the value of companies co-owned by her husband, saying an accountant omitted liabilities. The correction follows scrutiny by congressional offices and drew criticism from Rep. Tom Emmer.
Omar’s amended filing lists the couple’s joint assets as worth between $18,004 and $95,000, replacing a prior range of $6 million to $30 million for companies co-owned by her husband, Tim Mynett. Her lawyer attributed the discrepancy to an accountant listing assets without accounting for liabilities; Omar’s office said she corrected the filing voluntarily.
The amendment followed a letter from the Office of Congressional Conduct. The House Oversight Committee had sought financial documents from Mynett and later asked the House Ethics Committee to review the matter; the Ethics Committee declined to comment. Rep. Tom Emmer criticized Omar in a Fox News interview, saying she and her accountant should be “fired.”
