Rep. Randy Weber introduced a bill to establish a National Recreation Area across five Upper Gulf Coast counties in Texas. The proposal would preserve public recreational access while leaving private property decisions with landowners, and it has been referred to the House Natural Resources Committee.
Weber said the proposed Lone Star Coastal National Recreation Area would cover parts of Jefferson, Chambers, Galveston, Brazoria and Matagorda counties. He said the legislation would support tourism and outdoor recreation while keeping decisions about private property in the hands of local landowners. Reps. Wesley Hunt, Troy Nehls and Brian Babin are co-sponsors; Nehls said the bill would strengthen public access and support local economies.
