A CNN poll found Susan Collins and Troy Jackson in a close Maine Senate race, with Jackson ahead 48% to 45%—within the poll’s margin of error. Voters also reported strong views on Collins, Trump and tariffs, while the economy and cost of living ranked as their top concerns.
A CNN poll of 880 likely Maine voters showed Troy Jackson leading Sen. Susan Collins 48% to 45%, but the 3.7-point margin of sampling error meant there was no clear leader. The poll was conducted from Aug. 31 through Sept. 6. Jackson’s campaign highlighted the result, while a Collins spokesperson said she would make her case based on her record of bipartisan, independent leadership and delivering results for Maine.
The poll found that 71% of Jackson supporters were voting against Collins, while nearly three-fourths of Collins supporters said they were voting to support her. About two-thirds of respondents disapproved of President Donald Trump’s job performance, and roughly 70% said tariffs were bad for Maine. The economy and cost of living were voters’ top concerns. In the gubernatorial matchup included in the poll, Hannah Pingree led Bobby Charles 52% to 39%; independent Rick Bennett was not included.
