Graham Platner won the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate in Maine, setting up a fall race against Republican incumbent Susan Collins. The result followed Janet Mills’ earlier suspension of her campaign.
With 93% of votes counted, Platner had more than 72% of the vote, and the Associated Press called the race for him. Mills, whose name remained on the ballot after she suspended her campaign, received about one in five votes; David Costello received about 8%, while Andrea LaFlamme placed fourth with less than 1%.
Platner will face Collins in the general election. In his victory speech, he criticized Collins over her Supreme Court confirmation vote and campaign donations, while Collins’ campaign said she had a record of bipartisan accomplishments.
