Six candidates seeking California’s 7th Congressional District seat took part in a Sacramento forum ahead of the June primary. The discussion focused especially on incumbent Doris Matsui and challenger Mai Vang, who clashed over healthcare and campaign funding.
More than 300 people attended the forum, which was organized by Sacramento neighborhood associations and moderated by the League of Women Voters. All six candidates participated, but much of the discussion centered on Matsui and Vang. Vang criticized Matsui’s corporate PAC funding and argued for Medicare for all; Matsui described her record of securing federal resources and said there are multiple ways to expand healthcare access.
The article reports that Matsui had raised around $700,000 for the 2026 campaign and Vang about $285,000, with the other participating candidates trailing. Sacramento voter Alan Lofaso described Matsui and Vang as the race’s serious contenders, while saying he remained undecided. California’s top-two primary is scheduled for June, with the two leading candidates advancing to the November general election.
