Marjorie Taylor Greene announced an America First political “movement” with figures who have broken with President Donald Trump over the Iran war. The article also details Rep. Thomas Massie’s opposition to the war, including his vote for a House war powers resolution.
Greene announced the movement in an August 1 post with a photo of herself alongside Tucker Carlson, Massie and Joe Kent. Greene and Carlson had previously discussed a possible third party, and the article says all four had opposed Trump over the Iran war. Greene described Trump as having betrayed a promise to avoid foreign wars; Carlson called the war “disgusting and evil,” and Kent resigned from his counterterrorism post in March over his opposition.
The article says Greene resigned from Congress in January and that Massie lost his Kentucky primary to Ed Gallrein in May. In late July, Massie joined Republicans voting for a war powers resolution aimed at limiting Trump’s authority to wage the Iran war; it passed the House 214-208. Trump has attacked the former allies and said the conflict is necessary to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
