Rep. Russell Fry endorsed Sen. Darline Graham in South Carolina’s Republican Senate runoff after finishing third in the special primary. Graham will face Rep. Ralph Norman in the Aug. 25 runoff.
Fry said Graham should replace her late brother on the general-election ballot, citing her ability to advance President Donald Trump’s agenda and her understanding of everyday struggles. Graham was appointed to serve the remainder of her brother’s term and entered the race; she received the largest share of votes in the special primary but not a majority.
Fry’s endorsement followed support for Graham from Sen. Tim Scott and Trump. A GOP strategist described Fry’s endorsement as a political calculation, saying it made little sense for Fry to oppose Trump or Scott. The runoff winner will face Democratic nominee Annie Andrews in November.
